Hexoskin automatically calculates HRV values during a rest activity or a sleep activity only.
In fact, based on the literature, HRV values can only be accurately and meaningfully measured during a period with very minimal activity and movement. Indeed, it was reported that activity and movement can cause outliers in the ECG signal and then bias the HRV calculation and interpretation (please refer attached document Hexoskin-MeasureHRV).
During a rest activity or by performing a "5 Minutes Rest Test" (under the section Fitness Tests on the Hexoskin App), Hexoskin will automatically provide you only with an RMSSD value.
During a sleep activity, Hexoskin calculates automatically other HRV values:
- HRV(HF)
- HRVHF norm min
- HRVHF norm max
- HRVLF norm avg
- HRVLF avg
- HRVHF avg
- RMSSD
Hexoskin provides additional HRV metrics that may be accessed by querying the API. To obtain an API key* to query the API, please contact api@hexoskin.com:
- HRV Total Power of NN interval (Hexoskin metric ID 176)
- HRV SDNN (Hexoskin metric ID 180)
- HRV SDANN (Hexoskin metric ID 181)
- HRV AVNN (Hexoskin metric ID 182)
- HRV ASDNN (Hexoskin metric ID 183)
- HRV Triangular index (Hexoskin metric ID 185)
* By using your developer's keys you agree to our API Terms and Conditions.
If you want to perform relevant HRV analysis during a wake period, you will need to download your data under Binary format and do your analysis by eliminating the outliers in the ECG signal.
You can use the software HxConvertSourceFile to download multiples files of one user at a time.

On the software, please tick the box "Use Tab '\t' delimiter (used by Kubios) [default is comma ',' delimiter]" when downloading files to open in an HRV analysis software, such as Kubios.
You will then use the RR_interval files to perform your HRV analysis (for more details, please refer to this link). If you need help or assistance, feel free to contact our Support Team at support@hexoskin.com.
